BARMOUTH TRAILHEAD AT THE CYNWYD HERITAGE TRAIL | Bala Cynwyd PA

The Cynwyd Heritage Trail is a 1.8-mile-long rail trail in Lower Merion, PA that follows the route of the former SEPTA Cynwyd Line railway from Cynwyd Station to Belmont Avenue, and forking along the way, across the Manayunk Bridge into Philadelphia. The Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail commissioned SALT DESIGN STUDIO to conduct community engagement and develop a Schematic Design for Barmouth Trailhead. Located at the former Barmouth Station, the Trailhead now serves as an important access point for Trail users.

SALT proposed a significant trail realignment to reduce conflicts between trail users and activities in the central gathering space. The realigned trail design enhances program opportunities at the Trailhead, provides much-need user amenities, such as seating, shade and restrooms, and maximizes Barmouth as a neighborhood and community hub along the Trail.
