SALT Design Studio is a mission-driven, collaborative landscape architecture studio devoted to changing the world through ecologically and socially sustainable design. We support a transparent and participatory process with our clients, communities, and within our studio. We advocate for beautiful, functional, and environmentally responsible design and aim to educate our clients and communities about the environments we inhabit and the spaces we create.

Our work focuses primarily on public landscapes throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding region, including parks and recreation spaces, schoolyards, streetscapes and trails, public gardens, civic landscapes, institutional and cultural campuses, and community-driven public realm projects.

Position Summary:

SALT is seeking a Landscape Designer with 1-3 years of professional experience to join our collaborative studio. As a member of our practice, you will work under the guidance and mentorship of licensed Landscape Architects on multiple projects with an opportunity to participate meaningfully in projects from initial research and conceptual design through construction documentation and implementation. Rather than working within a narrowly defined production role, our designers gain exposure to multiple aspects of the work, including design, community engagement, client and consultant coordination, planting design, documentation, and construction observation.

SALT values professionals who are curious, creative, self-motivated, collaborative, and eager to grow – and who know and love plants. You should be comfortable working both collaboratively with others in the studio, and independently on design solutions and production of graphics and drawings. SALT is committed to supporting the growth of emerging landscape architects through hands-on mentorship, increasing project responsibility, continuing education, and support toward professional licensure.

 Required Qualifications:

  • BLA or MLA from an accredited landscape architecture program.

  • 1-3 years of full-time professional experience in a landscape architecture office setting, or related design practice.

  • Strong design sensibility and graphic communication skills.

  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

  • Experience with 3D modeling and visualization software such as Rhino, Lumion or other comparable software.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work across multiple projects.

  • Interest in planting design and working knowledge of native plants of the Mid-Atlantic region.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to projects from conceptual design through design development and construction documentation.

  • Develop illustrative graphics, including diagrams, plans, sections, perspectives, and presentation materials.

  • Participate in project site visits and document existing conditions and site inventory and analysis.

  • Research design ideas, materials, precedents, and products.

  • Participate actively in studio design charrettes and project discussions.

  • Assist with development and production of design development and construction documentation drawing sets.

  • Coordinate with project managers, consultants, clients and other members of multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Participate in public meetings, community engagement activities, and client meetings.

  • Participate in construction administration services, such as site observation visits, preparation of field reports, and shadowing of construction coordination meetings.

  • Assist with proposals, award submissions, and other studio marketing initiatives.
