Nestled in the historic Jugtown district of Princeton, this 4-acre woodland park is well-loved by neighbors. The Borough of Princeton and surrounding residential community were interested in rehabilitating the park to provide a richer, more ecologically-diverse landscape and creating a unique and less structured play experience for children. SALT DESIGN STUDIO was commissioned by the Borough of Princeton to conduct an ecological assessment of the landscape, facilitate community meetings, and to develop an environmentally sensitive master plan for the future of this community park.
The first phase of park improvements included a new trail through the park connecting two neighborhoods, green stormwater infrastructure and habitat restoration. The new bridge (pictured above) gives pedestrians a lift over a lushly planted bioswale that captures and infiltrates runoff. In addition, new play and gathering spaces create opportunities for children and adults to exercise and socialize. The Council Ring (pictured at right) offers an informal play space for children and gathering area for adults.
