SALT DESIGN STUDIO was commissioned by the City Avenue Special Services District to develop a Landscape Master Plan for a 2.7 mile stretch of City Avenue between N. 63rd Street and Presidential Boulevard on both the Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township sides.

SALT conducted extensive field investigations and site analysis that identified significant hazards to pedestrians and opportunity areas for intervention. Our team also engaged with residents and business owners from both municipalities to understand concerns and tease out future visions for City Avenue.

Utilizing analysis and stakeholder input, SALT developed a plan that addressed key deficiencies along the corridor through distinctive, community-supported design recommendations that make City Avenue a more accessible, lively and safe place for pedestrians. The final Master Plan included a branded design toolkit of key strategies to guide design and implementation of future improvements. Together, the Plan and toolkit comprise a holistic and sustainable framework for managing the City Avenue streetscape into the future.
